TV and movies related to marine life!?
A question for you all.... who's your favourite marine biology narrator/presentor. They have to be alive and it can't be David Attenborough. I've been asked by the BBC to suggest a few names for a new series they're developing on oceanography. I've come up with a few names already but I'd be interested to hear what you all think. They've specifically asked for marine biologists (ie not just good presenters but someone qualified to do it), but won't tell me the kind of person they're looking for. And they don't mind where they come from geographically.

I'll do it, and I do love me
John Coffey, a cancer biologist at John Hopkins University said: "I don't think there is any benefit in buying shark cartilage and eating it, any more than I think that eating rabbit will make me run faster."

Bond, James Bond... Pierce Brosnan was pretty darn good in the Jean-Michel show recently about sharks:

and Jeff Corwin (from Animal Planet's Corwin's Quest) would be great too:

Those are my two favorites. That group also contacted us over here too.
You know what? Joni has a great voice and the knowledge to boot... and I could help with the script even.

Gotta be a marine biologist, I'm afraid - I guess Jeff Corwin might just qualify as he has a masters in wildlife and fisheries conservation but I think they're looking for someone distinctly academic... don't tell him I said so but I did suggest a certain Dr Wood....

Lol, so did we... will be quite a challenge to find a great speaker who's also a Marine Biologist... here's a couple more I just thought of:
Dr. Elliot Norse: http://mcbi.org/
Dr. Carl Safina: http://www.blueocean.org/

"Extending a sea ethic would mean recognizing the ocean’s importance to the continued existence of life on our planet and to human futures. From this recognition would flow an appropriate sense of moral imperative, commitment, and urgency—urgency toward ending overfishing and wasteful bycatch and aggressively rebuilding depleted ocean wildlife populations, stabilizing human effects on world climate, slowing habitat destruction, stemming global transport and accidental introduction of "alien" species, curbing the flow of contaminants and trash, developing sustainable seafood farming, cultivating an informed approach to the seafood marketplace, and implementing networks of protected areas in the sea." - Dr. Carl Safina

Me? Uh, no. Not unless BBC likes their docs narrated with a suthern twang
"Hey ya'll - this here's the leh-purd see-uhl. They got big ole teeth and real purty coats."
Sylvia Earle! She certainly has the passion and I'm pretty sure she has a nice voice too.
Kate Winslet, Rachel Weisz, Kristin Scott Thomas - 3 excellent British actresses with very nice voices. Martin, I'm sure you would have no problem "chatting them up"
Sharon Lawrence - a US television actress and ocean advocate (probably not recognizable enough for BBC though)
Hmmmm....I'm being a little gender biased here.....

no one's gonna complain if they're wearing bikinis, mind you they won't really follow the documentary either so maybe the bikini idea isn't so good.
