Oarfish
I am trying to make a map of Oarfish sightings from around the world. Though I can only find a few of the sightings. Does anyone know about any websites where I can find info on Oarfish sightings?

Re: Oarfish
You might try the library and search google (for common names - check fishbase.org for those and note those in different languages too as well as the scientific names (include synonyms too)) for reports like http://www.bloodydecks.com/forums/baja- ... rfish.html. Let me know what you come up with and I'll add it our oarfish species home page.

"Extending a sea ethic would mean recognizing the ocean’s importance to the continued existence of life on our planet and to human futures. From this recognition would flow an appropriate sense of moral imperative, commitment, and urgency—urgency toward ending overfishing and wasteful bycatch and aggressively rebuilding depleted ocean wildlife populations, stabilizing human effects on world climate, slowing habitat destruction, stemming global transport and accidental introduction of "alien" species, curbing the flow of contaminants and trash, developing sustainable seafood farming, cultivating an informed approach to the seafood marketplace, and implementing networks of protected areas in the sea." - Dr. Carl Safina

<<<----Here's one sighted at the Plankton Forums. lol.
Actually, we could all work together on this and compile a nicely sized list. You should find lots of useful information on three of the four species (couldn't find R. kinoi) by viewing the following links (I know there are a lot of links, but they're all different, I promise). Note that several of the French ones seem to point to empty pages, although the catalog numbers on them are valid catalog numbers that do refer to actual specimens. (I have the links grouped by species, if that helps.)

Here's the data corresponding to those empty French pages, as reported on at FishBase.org (copy it into a text file, save it, rename the file with an HTML extension, and open it in your Internet browser to view properly):

I love fishbase I have them as one of the tabs on my computer. I'm surprised they can gather all the info that they have.

What little I've seen of it impresses me as well. How's your map coming?

Its coming along. I'm making a list of all the sightings first and numbering them so I can put numbers on the map of where they are.
