G'Day!

New postby Catfish » January 19, 2010 - 2:37 am

Hello! I'm Deb and I love Marine Biology! I am originally from the UK, and studied for a degree in Zoology (including some marine biology) which I got nearly 14 years ago (goodness me, that makes me feel old!). I always loved marine biology, but at the time I was under a huge amount of pressure from my parents to pursue a 'sensible' career, so I took myself back off to uni to study optometry. I worked as an optometrist for a few years, but then stopped working to have a family. My husband decided, about two years ago, that he would like to move us all to Australia with his career, so here we now are living near to Sydney where we have been for a little under a year. Our children are still small, so I am at home with them at the moment, but I have decided that I want to pursue the career that I wanted all along. I want to be a marine biologist. So, as I will be at home with the children for three more years I am going to study at home for a diploma in Marine Science in my spare time. After that, who knows. Maybe another degree?

I am most interested in marine conservation, in invertebrates and in ecology, although all aspects of marine biology interest me.

This is a great site and I am quite excited about having found it!

Many thanks for the welcomes!

Surfsup, we are at the moment on holiday at Currarong near Jervis Bay. I have seen wild dolphins, and i have been snorkelling round some of the rocky reefs nearby. We found a lovely beach called Cabbage Tree Beach, which has rockpools for hubby and the kids to entertain themselves with, whilst I snorkel round. I have seen a pipefish and I also saw a stingray, which I was amazed at! Lots of other types of fishes too. We are back home on Sunday, but are hoping that the weather tomorrow is good enough to have a last snorkel round.
